UEFA on Friday opened disciplinary proceedings after several photographers were injured when fans stormed over barriers at the end of Wednesday's quarter-final between Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in Germany. Celebrating Bayern fans scaled barriers into a restricted area reserved for pitch-side photographers.

The electric atmosphere of a Champions League quarter-final took a dangerous turn this week, leading to a UEFA investigation. European football's governing body has opened disciplinary proceedings after several pitch-side photographers were injured by celebrating Bayern Munich fans at the end of their dramatic clash with Real Madrid.

The incident occurred after Bayern secured a stunning comeback victory with late goals from Luis Diaz and Michael Olise, booking their place in the semi-finals against holders Paris Saint-Germain. In the ensuing celebrations, a group of supporters scaled barriers and stormed into a restricted area reserved for media, trampling photographers positioned between the grandstand and advertising boards.

The consequences were serious: one photographer suffered a head laceration, while another required medical attention for back and shoulder injuries. Although the club and fan groups have issued apologies, UEFA has moved swiftly to launch a formal probe.

The investigation will focus on multiple breaches, including "blocking of public passageways," "throwing of objects," "crowd disturbances," and the "display of a message inappropriate for a sporting event," referencing an anti-UEFA banner. UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body will determine any sanctions against the German giants in due course.

This is not the first disciplinary issue for Bayern in this season's competition; UEFA previously ordered a partial closure of their southern stand for repeated use of pyrotechnics. The latest incident casts a shadow over what was a magnificent sporting achievement and raises ongoing concerns about fan safety at major events.
