Talk about going the extra mile—or 500 of them! Five dedicated Carlisle United supporters have just completed an epic six-day cycling journey from their home in Cumbria all the way to Truro, Cornwall, to watch their team play. Their incredible trek, dubbed "Truro or Bust," was about more than just football; it was a massive charity effort that has already raised over £14,400 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association and Cancer Research UK.

For three of the riders—Dean Haughan, his brother Brian, and Ian Shaw—the 500-mile route was a monumental physical challenge, as they humorously describe themselves as "non-cyclists." They trained for six months to prepare, supported by Mark Herring in a backup vehicle. Their teammate David Mason, originally set to ride, joined as navigator after an unfortunate leg fracture.

The ride took on an even deeper meaning thanks to a special request. Chris Haigh-Prothero, a Truro United fan now living in Carlisle who is battling incurable oesophageal cancer, asked the group to take his team scarf to Saturday's match to be signed by the Carlisle squad. Unable to make the long trip himself, Chris hoped the signed scarf could be raffled off to boost the charitable funds even further.

His daughter, Heather, shared how much the gesture meant, saying the cyclists were representing her father "in spirit." She added, "It's great for dad, it's made his day... I really hope they do well and make a lot of money."

After pedaling through wind, rain, and fatigue since April 11th, the group arrived in Truro on Friday, just in time for the big game. Their story is a powerful reminder of how sports fandom can fuel incredible feats of endurance and generosity, proving that the heart of the game often beats strongest off the pitch.
