The New York Jets are locking in their future, one rookie at a time. Two weeks after making three first-round selections in the 2026 NFL Draft, the team has officially signed tight end Kenyon Sadiq, the 16th overall pick.
Sadiq, a dynamic offensive weapon out of college, is expected to bring versatility and matchup problems to the Jets' offense. General Manager Darren Mougey explained the decision to draft him, saying, "Sadiq was a player that, obviously we studied, spent a lot of time on and valued as an offensive weapon. When he was there, it was really a no-brainer for us, just to add another weapon to the offense." Mougey added that offensive coordinator Frank Reich has a "great vision" for using Sadiq in multiple ways, including in 12 personnel packages, to keep defenses guessing.
The Jets had a busy first round, also selecting edge rusher David Bailey with the No. 2 overall pick and trading back into the first round to grab receiver Omar Cooper Jr. at No. 30. With Sadiq now under contract, the team can focus on integrating these young stars into their system ahead of rookie minicamp.
Thanks to the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement, signing first-round picks has become a much smoother process. Gone are the days when negotiations dragged past the Fourth of July. Now, most rookies have their deals done before Memorial Day, allowing them to focus on what matters: getting on the field. As the saying goes, work is work—and there's no sense in showing up without officially being part of the team.
