Britain's Ros Canter and Lordships Graffalo become the first rider and horse combination to win the Badminton Horse Trials three times.

In a historic moment for eventing, Britain's Ros Canter and her remarkable horse Lordships Graffalo—affectionately known as "Walter"—have etched their names into the record books by becoming the first rider-horse combination to win the prestigious Badminton Horse Trials three times. This extraordinary achievement marks their third victory in just four years, a feat unmatched since the event's inception in 1949.

Canter, 40, who recently helped Team GB secure team eventing gold at the 2024 Olympics, competed just 16 weeks after giving birth to her second child, daughter Seneh. The timing adds an inspiring layer to an already legendary partnership, showcasing the resilience and dedication required at the highest levels of equestrian sport.

The competition was a masterclass in consistency and composure. Canter and Lordships Graffalo led from the start after the dressage and cross-country phases, holding a slim advantage over Harry Meade and Annaghmore Valoner. When Meade's horse knocked down a fence during the showjumping finale on Sunday, the cushion grew to 10.2 penalties. Canter then navigated the final phase with precision, incurring just two time penalties for a total score of 25.7, securing victory ahead of Tim Price and Falco in second place.

This win also adds to the pair's incredible legacy. Having claimed the Burghley Horse Trials for a second time last September, Lordships Graffalo now boasts five five-star victories, making him the most decorated horse in eventing history. "I thought he jumped his socks off in there today," Canter said on BBC Two, holding her newborn daughter. "I can't put into words how lucky I am to ride a horse like him. He enables me to get myself into a position where I believe I can be one of the fastest riders in the world."

Canter also paid tribute to her support network, saying, "I can't thank everybody enough for all they put in to help me because it takes an army to do this. I feel incredibly lucky to be able to juggle both jobs. To be an event rider, it's a real family sport and we're very privileged to be able to do both at the same time."

For fans of equestrian sports and those who appreciate the pinnacle of horsemanship, this victory is a testament to the unbreakable bond between rider and horse, and a reminder that greatness is built on teamwork, trust, and an unwavering pursuit of excellence.
