The Toronto Blue Jays need something to turn their season around, possibly a new face. They could trade for the biggest named starter for the season, hopefully turning the season around.

The Toronto Blue Jays are in desperate need of a spark. After a World Series appearance last season, the team has stumbled to a 16-18 start, plagued by injuries that have decimated their starting rotation. But a potential blockbuster trade could change everything—and it involves a former Cy Young winner.

According to multiple reports, the Blue Jays should target Miami Marlins ace Sandy Alcántara. The right-hander has been one of the league's most durable arms, leading MLB with 47 1/3 innings pitched while posting a solid 3.04 ERA across seven starts. For a Toronto rotation that has been hit hard by injuries—Max Scherzer (forearm tendinitis), José Berríos, Shane Bieber, and Cody Ponce are all on the injured list—Alcántara would provide the stability and innings the team desperately needs.

"Alcántara has a 3.04 ERA in seven starts. On top of his solid ERA, he's leading the league with 47 1/3 innings pitched," wrote SI's Patrick McAvoy. "That's what the Blue Jays need the most right now."

The Blue Jays have shown signs of life recently, winning four of their last six games. But with the season slipping away, a move for Alcántara could be the jolt that turns things around. The 2022 National League Cy Young winner has the pedigree and stuff to anchor a rotation, and his presence would immediately change the energy in the clubhouse.

Toronto has never been afraid to make a splash, and with the trade deadline approaching, this could be the season-altering move that keeps their championship hopes alive. For a team that came within striking distance of a title last year, adding a frontline starter like Alcántara might be exactly what the doctor ordered.
