Upon joining the Jacksonville Jaguars after last season's trade deadline, Jakobi Meyers' impact was immediate.
As head coach Liam Coen described earlier this offseason, in Meyers' very first practice with the team, his presence was felt.
In 10 games with the Jaguars, Meyers caught 43 passes for 495 yards with three touchdowns. As good as Meyers was working with Trevor Lawrence and operating in Liam Coen's offense, having a full offseason with the team and in the same system can provide Meyers with a jumping-off point heading into 2026.
"I think just for him being able to be here with the guys through a whole offseason to get that work, that chemistry to continue to build on that," Lawrence said of Meyers. "We had to try to pick it up mid-season, which a lot of credit to him. He was really easy to get in sync with and he was a super hard worker, so we got it going pretty quickly, but that can be hard to do. So now to have a full offseason together and I think just the relationship piece to be able to hang out with his teammates and get to spend time together and have the weekends and be here and get to know your teammates.
Lawrence continued, "I think that's a big piece of it too and get comfortable where you're living. He moved here in November and just came and played with us, I guess, a few days later in Houston. So it was kind of a crazy quick turnaround. So I think he's probably -- you have to ask him -- but I'm sure he's probably excited to kind of settle in and get this offseason program to really get some good work in, but also get to know his teammates a little bit better."
Meyers' impact on the Jaguars' offense went beyond the stat sheet. His skill set makes him a terrific fit for Coen's offense.
Meyers is a willing run blocker, can move around the formation, and is comfortable attacking the middle and intermediate levels of the field. Not to mention that he's a very reliable target as well, providing stability to the Jaguars passing game, which dealt with drops through the first half of last season.
Meyers' ability to fill those roles then opens up opportunities for others within the offense, specifically Brian Thomas Jr., who can then more so provide that downfield presence.
This trade for Meyers was a homerun by James Gladstone, and it could look even better in 2026, after Meyers has a full offseason in Jacksonville.
