Round 2, Game 1 – Player of the Game: Logan Stankoven

Logan Stankoven has been waiting for this moment—and so have we. Believe it or not, the Carolina Hurricanes' rising star had yet to be named "Player of the Game" by Canes Country during these playoffs. That oversight ends now.

Stankoven led the team in goals during Round 1 and scored first in the first three games, tying NHL records in the process. But with his teammates stepping up in big ways, the spotlight often shifted elsewhere. Not on Saturday night.

In Game 1 of Round 2, Stankoven picked up right where he left off. He opened the scoring just 1:31 into the first period with a slick tip-in off a Mike Reilly shot. Later, he added another goal, bringing his postseason total to six goals in just five games. That's the kind of hot streak that turns playoff series around.

Speaking of streaks, Stankoven is now riding a 13-game point run that stretches back to the final eight games of the regular season. Timing is everything in hockey, and he's picked the perfect moment to catch fire.

His first goal came early, setting the tone. Later in the period, Jackson Blake added to the lead with a beautiful move that slid the puck past goaltender Dan Vladar. Then, in the second period, Andrei Svechnikov broke up a play and fed Seth Jarvis, who found Stankoven wide open cross-ice. The young center made no mistake, beating Vladar bar down to make it 3-0—a goal that all but sealed the game for Carolina.

Stankoven's night wasn't just about scoring. In just 13 minutes of ice time, he led the team with five shots on goal and won 64% of his faceoffs (7 of 11). That's the kind of all-around performance that coaches dream of.

Honorable mention goes to Frederik Andersen, who recorded his second shutout of the playoffs. Normally, a shutout earns you "Player of the Game" honors, but Andersen had a relatively quiet night. Through two periods, the Flyers managed just nine shots on goal. They picked up some offensive zone time and shots during a late two-man advantage, finishing with 19 for the game.

And let's not overlook K'Andre Miller, who continues to shine for Carolina. His defensive play of the game came when he caught up to Garnet Hathaway, who had broken free after leaving the penalty box. Miller dove, extended his long reach, and knocked the puck away with his stick, saving a near-certain scoring chance.

It's been a playoff run full of standout moments, but Saturday night belonged to Stankoven. And if he keeps playing like this, it won't be the last time we're saying his name.
