Shay Ciezki's remarkable collegiate journey has earned her a shot at the professional level. The Indiana Hoosiers' record-setting senior guard is reportedly signing with the Phoenix Mercury as an undrafted free agent, a testament to her standout final season.
Ciezki didn't just have a good year; she made history. The 5-foot-7 guard became only the second NCAA Division I women's player ever to achieve a 50/40/90 shooting season while averaging over 20 points. Her final line was even more impressive: a 53/45/91 shooting split and a school-record 22.8 points per game. She added 3.1 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals, showcasing the all-around game that caught the WNBA's attention.
After beginning her career at Penn State, Ciezki found a new home and her best self at Indiana. A USBWA All-American honorable mention, she finished her four-year career with 1,854 points, proving herself as a prolific and efficient scorer with career shooting rates of 47% from the field, 41% from three, and 89% from the line.
Her time with the Hoosiers was transformative. "I found my love for the game again (at IU)," Ciezki said recently. "It gave me an extra burst of life, almost, to play under this amazing staff and with these girls." That renewed passion fueled her record-breaking performance and now leads her to the bright lights of the WNBA with the Mercury.
