Former Scotland international Paul Dickov has sparked speculation about a potential Rangers reunion for Nathan Patterson. Speaking to Record Sports, Dickov suggested a return to Ibrox could be exactly what the Everton right-back needs to reignite his career.
"He's had some unfortunate injuries, but now that he's back, he needs game time," Dickov said. "There's no doubting his ability; he's a top young defender, and a move back to Rangers would be good for him."
The 24-year-old Scotland international came through Rangers' academy before breaking into the senior squad under Steven Gerrard. He made 27 first-team appearances for his boyhood club, including seven league outings during their 2020-21 title-winning campaign. Everton paid £11 million to bring him to Merseyside in January 2022, but consistent minutes have been hard to come by due to a mix of form issues and fitness setbacks.
With just 67 appearances in over four years at Goodison Park, Patterson is reportedly set to hold talks with manager David Moyes about his future. The timing is critical—he's competing for a spot in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, and his Everton contract has only one year remaining.
The Toffees may opt for a cut-price deal rather than losing him for nothing next summer. For Rangers, who are facing an array of potential exits this window, bringing Patterson back could be a smart move. On paper, the Gers are well-stocked on the right flank with captain James Tavernier and Dujon Sterling, but a homecoming for the academy product would add depth and a familiar presence to the dressing room.
