Paris Saint-Germain's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is making a compelling case for the 2026 Ballon d'Or — and according to one prominent French journalist, he doesn't even need a World Cup appearance to earn it.

Dominique Severac of Le Parisien believes the Georgian winger has been so dominant this season that he deserves football's highest individual honor, regardless of his country's absence from international football's biggest stage. "He has no equal in Europe," Severac declared.

The numbers back the hype. In PSG's Champions League semifinal return leg against Bayern Munich, Kvaratskhelia was the engine behind the attack. While Ousmane Dembélé grabbed the headlines as the only scorer, it was the man they call "Kvaradona" who provided the assist and consistently tormented Bayern's backline. His ability to retain possession under pressure, create chances from nothing, and even track back for crucial defensive recoveries made him the heartbeat of PSG's performance. Had Willian Pacho not been so commanding in defense, Kvaratskhelia would have easily claimed man of the match honors.

But Severac sees even bigger things ahead. "At this moment, the Georgian simply deserves the 2025-2026 Ballon d'Or," he wrote. "Even with 64 selections, Kvaratskhelia would have very little chance of participating in the World Cup. It will be 48 teams for the first time this summer, and Georgia did not qualify, with Spain and Turkey in its group."

That's the elephant in the room. In World Cup years, the Ballon d'Or has historically gone to players who shine on the international stage. But Severac argues that Kvaratskhelia's Champions League performances transcend that tradition. "If Michael Olise has been the most consistent player of the season, the most impactful is the Parisian winger. Fierce and an animal in duels as in determination, he transforms into a beast on European nights — frankly, at a higher level than matches in a World Cup tournament, final aside."

At 25 years old, Kvaratskhelia has already established himself as one of the most electrifying talents in world football. Whether or not the Ballon d'Or voters agree with Severac's bold prediction, one thing is certain: when the Champions League anthem plays, "Kvaradona" is in a league of his own.
