EUGENE, Ore. – The Oregon Twilight meet at legendary Hayward Field delivered another unforgettable night of track and field, with Oregon's Simeon Birnbaum stealing the show in the 800 meters.
Birnbaum, already known for his prowess on the oval, switched distances and delivered a masterclass. He blazed to a meet record and personal best of 1:44.67, making him the third-fastest performer in program history. The crowd erupted as he crossed the line, adding another chapter to Hayward Field's storied legacy.
But Birnbaum wasn't the only Duck shining under the lights. The Oregon Twilight showcased a blend of current stars, alumni, and future talent, all competing on the same hallowed track. Oregon's Hayden Williams-Downing took the women's javelin with a commanding performance, while Taylor Wiseman impressed in both the shot put and discus, showing off her versatility in the throwing events.
Former Duck Ryann Porter made a triumphant return, competing in the women's triple jump, while alum Jaida Ross, now with the Nike Oregon Track Club, threw in the shot put, reminding fans of the program's deep talent pipeline. Emily Fitzsimmons soared to victory in the women's pole vault, and Toby Stolberg cleared a personal best to win the women's high jump.
In the distance events, Landen LeBlond competed fiercely in the women's 1,500 meters, while Samuel Blount showed strength in the men's shot put. Marie Josée Bovele-Linaka also made her mark in the women's discus, adding depth to Oregon's throwing corps.
The meet even celebrated the next generation, as Philomath's Olivia Hernandez won the middle school girls mile, inspiring young athletes dreaming of their own Hayward Field moments.
