The Ohatchee Indians started their Class 3A East Regional campaign at Sand Mountain Park with a promising 5-2 victory over Collinsville on Wednesday morning, but the team's momentum was short-lived as they were later knocked into the elimination bracket following a hard-fought 12-8 loss to Randolph County.
After jumping out to an early lead against Collinsville, the Indians faced a tough challenge against Randolph County, trailing 7-2 after four innings. Ohatchee showed resilience by scoring three runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, but Randolph County answered each rally with clutch hitting of their own.
The Indians' comeback effort in the sixth inning was highlighted by a key play when Alanah Fitch drove in Annie Cox with an RBI double. Fitch and Mollee Barnes then crossed the plate on a passed ball, cutting the deficit to just 9-8. However, Randolph County responded with three runs in the bottom half of the inning to secure the win.
"We did what we could to keep ourselves in the ballgame by coming back in those two innings and bringing it within one," said Ohatchee head coach Kendall Poe. "But we didn't show up to play today mentally."
Offensively, Gracie Reed led the way for Ohatchee with a team-high four RBIs, including a two-run triple in the first inning. Blaze Steward went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI, while Annie Cox contributed a 2-for-5 performance with two runs scored. Both Barnes and Fitch crossed the plate twice in the game.
Randolph County's Hannah Parmer was unstoppable at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and two doubles, driving in six runs to lead her team to victory.
In the earlier game against Collinsville, Ohatchee's offense was sparked by Fitch's three-run triple in the bottom of the fifth inning that sealed the win. Cox finished 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Reese Steward and Makayla Brackett each added a single and scored a run. Blaze Steward also scored once, and Madison Mize contributed an RBI single to round out the Indians' balanced attack.
