The Hoosier North Athletic Conference track and field meet brought top-tier competition to Culver this Tuesday night, with athletes delivering standout performances across the board. Triton's girls team secured the championship title with 123.5 points, edging out Pioneer (109 points) and Winamac (99 points). The complete girls' team standings also featured Caston (76.5), North Miami (74), Culver (57), North Judson (50), Argos (26), and Oregon-Davis (6).
Pioneer senior Aspen Moolenaar was the undeniable star of the girls' meet, earning quadruple-winner honors by dominating the 100 hurdles (16.75 seconds), 300 hurdles (49.62 seconds), long jump (15 feet, 9.5 inches), and pole vault (9 feet, 6 inches). Her versatility and speed set a high bar for the competition. Teammate Emilee Juby, a sophomore, also shined by winning the discus with a throw of 104 feet, 8.5 inches.
Winamac junior Sadie Popejoy swept the sprint events, taking first in the 100 meters (13.33 seconds), 200 meters (27.8 seconds), and 400 meters (1:03.7). Meanwhile, Winamac senior Avery Wegner claimed a clean sweep in the distance events, winning the 800 meters (2:41.10), 1600 meters (6:02.34), and 3200 meters (13:29.48). Caston's relay team of Autumn Sanders, Hannah Rogers, Grace Colvin, and Camila Hernandez-Rios capped off the girls' action with a victory in the 4x400 relay (4:31.56).
On the boys' side, Triton also claimed the team title with 135 points, followed by Winamac (120 points), North Judson (102 points), Caston (81 points), Pioneer (69 points), North Miami (60 points), Culver (33 points), and Argos (5 points). Pioneer junior Dane Bowditch delivered a strong performance in the 800 meters, winning with a time of 2:08.37.
Winamac senior Nathan Pierzchalski demonstrated endurance and speed by winning both the 1600 meters (4:43.81) and 3200 meters (11:10.61). Fellow senior Charles Disinger dominated the throwing events, sweeping the discus (133 feet, 2 inches) and shot put (48 feet, 0.25 inches). The Warriors' 4x800 relay team—Hector Gallegos, Paxton Moon, Logan Fredel, and Pierzchalski—added another win with a time of 8:47.74.
In softball action, Class 3A No. 1 Logansport (17-1, 5-0 HC East) secured its spot in Friday's Hoosier Conference title game with a win at Hamilton Heights. Adrienne Scott led the Berries' offense, going 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs. Tatianna Jones and Evie Kitchel each contributed three hits, while Bella Nicoles added a double, single, and RBI. Kate Spradling chipped in two hits and two RBIs, and Brooklynn Hagerty powered the lineup with a home run and three RBIs. Aracyn Good added a double and two runs scored, and Gracie Risley contributed a single and RBI. Hagerty also pitched a complete game, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 10 batters.
Class 2A No. 7 Winamac (15-2, 4-0 HNAC) earned a seven-inning victory at Caston (9-6, 2-2). Maggie Keller starred at the plate, going 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Adrianna Hall smashed a home run and added a single and three RBIs, while Makayla Werner also homered and drove in two runs. Brooke Rausch contributed a double, single, and two RBIs, Brody Goodman added a double, and Grace Roth chipped in a single and two runs scored. The Warriors built a 1-0 lead before exploding for four runs in the third inning, four more in the sixth, and two in the seventh. For Caston, Kylee Logan went 2-for-3 to lead the offense, while Lexie Field added a single. Hadlie Coffing pitched all seven innings, allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 11 hits and five walks, striking out six.
In baseball, Owen Cotner-Graves delivered a masterful performance, firing a two-hit shutout with four strikeouts to lead his team to victory.
