The New York Jets made a bold move in the 2026 NFL Draft, trading up with the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth round to secure former Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik. It's a pick that signals the franchise is thinking ahead—and according to Jets general manager Darren Mougey, it all started with a gut feeling that never faded.

"I felt really good about Cade," Mougey explained. "We had strong grades on him going into the year. Even when he got hurt early and played through it, and the team struggled, we kept watching. Then we got to sit down with him at the combine, and that interview was great."

That conversation sparked something bigger. The Jets flew to Clemson for a private workout, spending time with Klubnik on campus, in the film room, and on the field. "It felt natural," Mougey added. "There was a real connection. He showed well in the workout, and we came away feeling really good about a young player with so much experience."

Klubnik's resume speaks for itself. He was a three-year starter at Clemson, arrived as a 17-year-old freshman, and before that, posted a perfect 30-0 record as a high school quarterback in Texas. "He's won a lot of games," Mougey noted. "Last year was tough, but he's still young, athletic, and has real upside."

Now, Klubnik heads to New York with a clear path and a front office that believes in his potential. For Jets fans, this aggressive draft move is a sign that the team is building for the future—and it all starts with a quarterback they couldn't afford to let slip away.
