The New England Patriots have landed in the top five of the AFC draft class rankings, a strong sign that their front office is building for the future. According to Sports Illustrated's Matt Verderame, the Patriots earned a "B" grade and were ranked No. 5 out of all 16 teams in the conference for their 2026 NFL Draft selections.
The Patriots showed impressive foresight by shoring up their offensive line depth. They selected two swing tackles—Caleb Lomu at No. 28 overall and Dametrious Crownover at No. 196—who could serve as potential replacements for starting right tackle Morgan Moses when he retires. Lomu was one of the most heralded tackles in this year's draft class, while Crownover's athleticism makes him a strong candidate to back up either Moses or left tackle Will Campbell next season.
Addressing a key offseason need, the Patriots snagged one of the draft's best edge rushers in Gabe Jacas at No. 55 overall. They also bolstered the tight end position by selecting Eli Raridon at No. 95—a dynamic pass-catcher who averaged an impressive 15.1 yards per reception for Notre Dame in 2025.
The Patriots rounded out their draft with several other promising prospects: cornerback Karon Prunty (No. 171), linebacker Namdi Obiazor (No. 212), quarterback Behren Morton (No. 234), running back Jam Miller (No. 245), and edge rusher Quintayvious Hutchins (No. 247).
While the Patriots addressed multiple areas of need, their decision not to select a top wide receiver stands out as the one position the front office overlooked. Still, with a solid mix of talent and depth, New England is poised to maximize its young roster as they gear up for the 2026 season.
