There's a new champion in the ACC, and it's wearing garnet and gold. No. 10 Florida State softball put an exclamation point on a dominant regular season, sweeping Boston College in commanding fashion to claim the ACC regular season title. The Seminoles are officially postseason-bound, and they're bringing some serious momentum with them.
The series finale was all Florida State from the very first pitch. After BC's Alyx Rossi retired the leadoff batter, Jaysoni Beachum wasted no time, ripping a double and advancing to third on a groundout. That set the stage for Anna Hinde, who delivered an RBI single to open the scoring. The Seminoles weren't done there. A walk loaded the bases, and consecutive singles from Kennedy Harp and Shelby McKenzie pushed the lead to 3-0 before the first inning was even over.
In the circle, Bella Dimitrijevic set the tone with a clean first inning, including a strikeout. The offense kept rolling in the second. Isa Torres singled, Beachum reached, and Ashtyn Danley came through with an RBI single up the middle. Hinde then added a sacrifice fly, making it 5-0 and putting the Eagles on their heels.
Boston College turned to reliever Shannon MacLeod, but the Seminoles' lineup remained relentless. Back-to-back walks to open the fourth inning put pressure on immediately. A wild pitch moved both runners into scoring position, and Danley delivered again with a sacrifice fly. After a walk to Hinde chased MacLeod, reliever Emily VanCleef entered with the bases loaded. McKenzie worked a full-count walk, pushing the lead to 7-0.
Jazzy Francik took over for Dimitrijevic in the third and kept the Eagles off balance. BC finally broke up a combined no-hitter with a single in the bottom of the inning, but it was too little, too late. Torres reached on a single in the fifth, and an error allowed Beachum to get on base while Torres raced to third. A fielder's choice brought Torres home, extending the lead to 8-0.
Francik allowed a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth, but a pop-up, fielder's choice, and another pop-up sealed the sweep and the ACC regular season championship. With this win, Florida State locks up the No. 1 seed in the ACC tournament, sending a clear message to the rest of the conference: the Seminoles are ready to play for a title.
