In a thrilling showdown between two of Southwest Washington's most dominant softball programs, the Montesano Bulldogs edged out the Adna Pirates 2-1 in a tightly contested matchup that lived up to its billing as a clash of state champions.

The game was a pitcher's duel from the start, with both teams showcasing their elite arms. Adna's Charlie Myers was electric, striking out nine batters over six innings while allowing just six hits. For Montesano, Grace Gooding and Violet Prince combined for a stellar performance, with Prince striking out six over 3.1 innings of scoreless relief.

The Pirates struck first in the top of the fourth inning when Teagan Baggenstos led off with a double and later scored on a passed ball to give Adna a 1-0 lead. But the Bulldogs answered immediately in the bottom half of the frame. Taylor Galvin wasted no time, crushing the first pitch she saw from Myers over the fence for a two-run home run that proved to be the difference-maker.

Despite committing four errors, Montesano's defense held firm when it mattered most. The Pirates had opportunities to tie or take the lead, putting runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings. However, Prince shut the door each time, leaving Lena McCloskey stranded at second base in the final frame to secure the win.

The loss snaps a four-game winning streak for Adna (14-3), who will look to bounce back against another 1A opponent, Elma, on Monday. For Montesano, the victory is a statement win as they continue to build momentum in what promises to be an exciting season ahead.
