Tensions boiled over during a lopsided playoff matchup as New York Knicks big man Mitchell Robinson and Atlanta Hawks guard Dyson Daniels were fined following an on-court altercation in Game 6 of their first-round series. The league announced that Robinson has been fined $50,000, while Daniels received a $25,000 fine. The penalties were handed down by James Jones, the NBA’s Executive Vice President and Head of Basketball Operations, in response to the incident that occurred during the Knicks’ dominant 140-89 victory on April 30 at State Farm Arena.

Tempers flared and wallets took a hit after a heated moment in Game 6 of the first-round playoff series between the New York Knicks and Atlanta Hawks. The NBA announced that Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has been fined $50,000, while Hawks guard Dyson Daniels received a $25,000 fine for their roles in an on-court altercation during the Knicks' dominant 140-89 victory on April 30 at State Farm Arena.

The incident occurred with 4:39 remaining in the second quarter. As a free throw was being attempted, Robinson and Daniels became entangled while battling for position along the lane. What started as routine playoff physicality quickly escalated, with both players exchanging shoves and heated words. Officials stepped in to separate the two, but Robinson continued to pursue Daniels aggressively even after the initial confrontation was broken up, leading to more severe penalties.

Both players were assessed technical fouls and ejected from the game, cutting their nights short. For Robinson, the $50,000 fine reflects the league's view that his continued aggression after the initial separation warranted a stiffer penalty. Daniels, who was less aggressive in the aftermath, received the lower fine.

The game itself was never in doubt—the Knicks had built a commanding lead early and never looked back. But the altercation served as a reminder of the raw emotions and heightened intensity that define playoff basketball. Physical play often ramps up in the postseason, but the NBA continues to emphasize the importance of maintaining control and sportsmanship, even in the heat of the moment.

For the Knicks, the victory secured their advancement to the next round, though Robinson's ejection briefly disrupted their interior presence. For the Hawks, Daniels' ejection added to a frustrating night as they struggled to keep pace throughout the game. The fines send a clear message: playoff passion is expected, but crossing the line comes with a cost.
