Down by a run in the sixth inning, the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns softball team delivered a masterclass in pressure baseball. A leadoff walk, a sacrifice bunt, a stolen base, and a perfectly executed squeeze play—it was a textbook display of small-ball execution that manufactured three decisive runs. That gritty, team-oriented rally propelled Louisiana to an 8-6 comeback victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday, clinching a crucial Sun Belt Conference series win at home.
The victory, following Friday's dominant 12-4 run-rule win, puts Louisiana on the brink of its first conference sweep of the season. It also extended the Ragin’ Cajuns' perfect home record against Coastal Carolina to an impressive 14-0. The team will look to complete the sweep in Sunday's series finale.
Saturday's win was a true team effort, defined by resilience. After Coastal Carolina seized a 6-5 lead in the fifth inning on a three-run homer, the Ragin’ Cajuns' response was immediate and clinical. The sixth-inning rally showcased the value of fundamentals: Kennedy Marceaux drew a walk, Mia Liscano’s bunt forced an error to tie the game, and Haley Hart’s perfect squeeze bunt brought home two runs to reclaim the lead for good.
While the offense manufactured runs, reliever Sage Hoover slammed the door shut. Entering in the fifth, Hoover delivered three scoreless innings of lockdown relief, scattering four hits and striking out six batters to earn her second win in as many days. She retired six of the final seven batters she faced, emphatically ending the game with three consecutive strikeouts.
Offensively, Brooke Otto continued her torrid series, going 2-for-3 with a triple and driving in three runs. Her series RBI total now stands at eight, bringing her season mark to 45 as she closes in on the 50-RBI milestone. Dayzja Williams also provided a key early spark with a two-RBI double during Louisiana's four-run second inning.
This comeback victory underscores the Ragin’ Cajuns' fighting spirit and their ability to win games through smart, situational play—a perfect example of how fundamentals and clutch performance can secure a series win.
