The Hawaii men's basketball team has landed a major offensive weapon, securing a commitment from sharpshooter Chance Trujillo. The 6-foot-4 guard, transferring from Utah Tech, brings a proven track record as a long-distance scorer who can immediately stretch defenses for the Rainbow Warriors.

Trujillo, who signed his contract and will join the team in June with two seasons of eligibility, is coming off a standout year. He averaged 12.3 points and tied a Utah Tech record by draining 73 three-pointers at a 35.3% clip, showcasing the kind of perimeter firepower that can change games. His hot hand was especially evident down the stretch, where he averaged 18 points over his final six contests.

"I'm excited to get to work with them," Trujillo told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser. "I think we can form some chemistry and have a lot of synergy throughout the season." His shooting philosophy is rooted in confidence, a trait instilled by his high school coach. "You have to put the time in the gym, step up, shoot it with confidence and watch it go through... I believe shooting is a lot more confidence than mechanics."

The allure of playing for the reigning Big West champions was a significant draw. "They just won the Big West, and made it to March Madness. That alone speaks to their credibility," Trujillo said, noting the immediate recruiting effort from the UH staff the moment the transfer portal opened. His positive impression was solidified during the Rainbow Classic last November, where he felt the unique energy of the Stan Sheriff Center. "I loved the environment... I definitely could feel the community's love and support there."

An endorsement from former teammate and recent Rainbow Warrior Isaac Finlinson also played a key role in his decision. Off the court, Trujillo is a multi-sport enthusiast—a pianist, wake-boarder, and an aspiring surfer who quipped, "Living in Hawaii, you've got to surf, right?" He's also a die-hard New York Yankees fan who wore Derek Jeter's No. 2, admiring the Hall of Famer's leadership. "I want to be that guy someday," he said, bringing a winning mentality to match his shooting touch to the islands.
