Aftr a 6-1 thrashing on Sunday, the Buffalo Sabres could be even stronger on Tuesday.
The Sabres have beat the odds amid their first-round playoff series against the Boston Bruins with a mix of momentum and mounting injury concerns
In Sunday’s decisive Game 4 victory, the Sabres delivered a commanding 6-1 win.
However, the game came at a physical cost. Forwards Tyson Kozak and Jason Zucker both left in the third period and did not return.
Head coach Lindy Ruff explained the decision was precautionary. He noted the team’s substantial lead allowed them to prioritize player health over pushing the injured pair back onto the ice.
“Just treat them and leave them in the dressing room, just for where the game was at,” Ruff said post-game.
Additionally, forward Josh Norris missed his second consecutive game due to an undisclosed injury. Ruff confirmed Norris remains day-to-day, a status that keeps him questionable for upcoming contests.
Josh Norris, F (undisclosed): Out since April 21. Missed Games 3 and 4 of the series; day-to-day.
Sam Carrick, F (left arm): Out since March 31 after an injury during a fight. Week-to-week and expected to miss the first round.
Jiri Kulich, F (blood clot): Out since November 1. Originally projected to miss the season, he has resumed non-contact skating but remains sidelined.
Justin Danforth, F (lower body): Out since October 15 with a broken kneecap. Post-surgery recovery continues with on-and-off skating due to lingering pain.
These absences test the Sabres’ depth as they battle for series control.
Despite a feew injuries, the Sabres’ resiliance has been something to marvel at. They’re leaning on strong performances from goaltender Alex Lyon and an emerging key contributors in rookie forward Noah Ostlund.
The 3-1 series in favor of the Sabres shifts to Buffalo for Game 5. If home ice wasn’t enough to drive the nail in Boston’s casket, perhaps Norris’ return and avoiding worst case-scenario with Zucker and Kozak are.
