William Osula is a player Eddie Howe clearly trusts. The manager's decision to keep faith with the Danish striker paid off again, after he left £124m-worth of forwards - Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa - on the bench. Osula has plenty of rough edges but the 22-year-old opened the scoring, caused the visitors problems with his pace, and tellingly left the field to a warm ovation from supporters when he was substituted off after a 68-minute appearance.

Eddie Howe has once again shown his unwavering faith in William Osula—and the Danish striker repaid that trust in style.

In a bold lineup decision, the Newcastle manager opted to start the 22-year-old ahead of a staggering £124 million worth of attacking talent, leaving Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa cooling their heels on the bench. It was a gamble that paid off handsomely.

Osula may still have plenty of rough edges to polish, but his performance was electric. He broke the deadlock with a well-taken opener, tormented the opposition defense with his blistering pace, and when he was substituted after 68 minutes of relentless effort, the home crowd rose to give him a warm, well-deserved ovation.

"He is very hungry, motivated, and believes in himself," Howe said after the match. "I think he has a really bright future."

The path hasn't always been smooth for Osula. After Newcastle recruited him from Sheffield United in 2024, his chances looked limited—especially with the high-profile arrivals of Woltemade and Wissa. In fact, he came close to joining Eintracht Frankfurt on deadline day last summer. But he chose to stay, and that decision has paid dividends, with the young forward stepping up to deliver some crucial goals in recent months.

While Newcastle are expected to remain in the market for a striker this summer, Howe is adamant about keeping hold of a player he describes as having "really rich promise."

"We signed him with the view of developing him and trying to build him to become a Premier League player, because that certainly wasn't the player we recruited," Howe explained. "He has done really well to stay stable, commit to that development, and see the longer-term plan. It is great to see that when he comes into the team and gets an opportunity, he grabs it."

For fans of the beautiful game, Osula's rise is a reminder that sometimes the best investments aren't measured in transfer fees, but in patience, belief, and a striker's hunger to prove himself on the biggest stage.
