Barcelona are considering addressing a number of positions in Hansi Flick’s squad during the summer, and one of them is goalkeeper. Joan Garcia is the undisputed number one, but behind him, there is...

Barcelona are gearing up for a busy summer transfer window under manager Hansi Flick, and one area they're looking to strengthen is the goalkeeping department. While Joan Garcia has cemented himself as the undisputed No. 1, there's plenty of uncertainty lurking behind him.

The club's veteran shot-stoppers—Wojciech Szczesny and Marc-Andre ter Stegen—face uncertain futures. Szczesny's contract runs until 2027, but Barcelona hold an option to terminate it this summer, potentially allowing the Polish star to retire for a second time. Meanwhile, ter Stegen won't be part of the plans once he returns from his loan spell at Girona, and the same goes for Inaki Oena, currently at Elche.

With those gaps in mind, Barcelona are hunting for a new goalkeeper to push Garcia for the starting spot. Their top target? Alex Remiro, the Real Sociedad star who could be available at a reduced price this summer.

Remiro's current deal with the Basque side runs until 2027, but Real Sociedad are eager to lock him down long-term. According to reports, they've already sent a contract proposal to his representatives that would keep him at Anoeta until at least 2029. The club is desperate to get a deal done before the summer window opens.

However, Remiro is playing it cool. The 29-year-old wants to finish the season strong and see if he'll earn a spot in the 2026 World Cup squad before making any decisions about his future. That delay could be a problem for La Real, especially with other clubs circling.

Barcelona aren't alone in their pursuit. Premier League sides Newcastle United and Aston Villa are also monitoring Remiro's situation, while Inter Milan see him as a potential replacement for Yann Sommer. Real Sociedad may find it tough to hold onto their star keeper beyond the summer, but for now, he remains a key piece of their squad.
