Uncapped 18-year-old spinner Tilly Corteen-Coleman has earned inclusion in England cricket’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup.
Charlotte Edwards’s side will target glory on home soil this summer with Nat Sciver-Brunt captaining a 15-player group which blends youth and experience.
Corteen-Coleman is one of three left-arm spinning options alongside Sophie Ecclestone and Linsey Smith, with leg-spinner Sarah Glenn missing out as she recovers from a broken finger.
Quick bowlers Lauren Filer and Issy Wong are both set to feature at a T20 World Cup for the first time, while all-rounder Dani Gibson has been in eye-catching form at the start of the domestic season for Somerset.
There is no place for experienced top order batter Tammy Beaumont, who captained England in their last outing in the format against India last summer. Rising star Davina Perrin, a standout in last year’s Hundred, also misses out.
“The waiting and wondering is over, we have named our ICC Women’s T20 World Cup squad and there is no doubt that it has been incredibly tough to get to these 15 names,” head coach Edwards, who captained the side to glory on home soil in 2009, said.
“This is the hardest set of selection meetings I have been a part of because the pool of players to choose from is so strong and so many talented players have put their hand up to be a part of the squad, which is exactly what we want. That is the nature of world-class sport, and it is a privilege we don’t take lightly to be able to make these difficult decisions.
“An ICC Women’s T20 World Cup on home soil is a special moment for the game in this country, and we are all really motivated by what could be ahead for this group of players and what they can achieve this summer.”
England open their World Cup campaign against Sri Lanka at Edgbaston on Friday 12 June. They also take on Ireland, New Zealand, Scotland and the West Indies in Group B, with the top two finishers progressing to the semi-finals.
The tournament final will be held at Lord’s on 5 July.
Ahead of the tournament, England will host New Zealand and India in white-ball series. Kira Chathli and Jodi Grewcock have been given their first call-ups for the ODI leg of New Zealand’s visit, with Em Arlott, Mahika Gaur and Emma Lamb also earning inclusion.
Sophia Dunkley, Charlie Dean and Danni Wyatt-Hodge will miss that series to manage their workloads.
