Durham's rising star Emilio Gay is making an undeniable case for an England call-up, and he delivered his loudest statement yet with a brilliant century at the home of cricket. The left-handed opener notched his third hundred of the season against Middlesex at Lord's, a performance that should have England head coach Brendon McCullum taking notice from New Zealand.

Playing on a flat Lord's pitch that offered little to the bowlers, Gay compiled a composed 129, showcasing the elegance and temperament that selectors love to see. The 26-year-old's innings was a masterclass in adaptability. After racing to his fifty at better than a run a ball on day two, he showed he could shift gears, playing second fiddle to David Bedingham when the situation demanded it.

The pair combined for a record-breaking third-wicket partnership, surpassing Durham's previous best against Middlesex for the second time in less than a week. Bedingham's more muscular 147 complemented Gay's cultured approach perfectly, as the duo put Durham firmly in control.

Gay's century at Lord's was his 13th in first-class cricket, and there was never a hint of nerves as he approached the milestone.
