This week's nominees were from Churchill, Elmira, Marist Catholic, South Eugene, Springfield and Thurston.

In a week filled with standout performances across Oregon high school sports, Churchill track and field athlete Malie McCoy has been crowned the Active Chiropractic girls Athlete of the Week, as voted by Register-Guard readers. The junior sprinter earned top honors with an impressive 46.48% of the reader poll votes, showcasing the community's recognition of her hard work on the track.

McCoy's winning moment came at the Spartan Challenge on May 1, where she blazed to a personal-best 400-meter time of 59.76 seconds, securing fourth place. That mark now stands as the 10th-best in the state this season among Class 5A girls, a testament to her rising talent. Coming in a strong second was Elmira softball player Audrey Varozza, who captured 34.42% of the vote after a dominant performance on the diamond.

But the week's athletic achievements didn't stop there. Across the region, athletes delivered standout moments that deserve a spotlight. Elmira junior Petra Archer turned heads with a season-best 16.34 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles on April 29 during a tri-meet against Roseburg and Willamette. Her time ranks eighth among Class 3A athletes this season, proving she's a force to watch in the hurdles.

Springfield's junior Sailor Hall made her mark in the throws, uncorking a season-best javelin heave of 123 feet, 2 inches on April 29 during a dual meet with Thurston. That throw is the fifth-best in the entire state, regardless of classification, and she also delivered a season-best shot put mark of 37-4, which sits second among Class 5A girls this spring. Teammate Violet Moran, also a junior, launched a personal-best javelin throw of 117-1 in the same meet, good for fourth-best in the state among Class 5A girls.

South Eugene senior Sydney Mucker took on a different kind of challenge, running a personal-best marathon time of 4:05:50 on April 26 at the Eugene Marathon. Her inspiring effort was in support of the Susan B. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, adding a meaningful layer to her athletic achievement.

Thurston junior Kelsie Raven showcased her versatility with a season-best triple jump mark of 35-1½ on April 29 during a dual meet with Springfield, ranking fourth among Class 5A girls in the state. She also posted a 100-meter hurdle season-best of 15.58 seconds, which ranks sixth in the same classification.

On the softball field, Elmira senior Audrey Varozza was nearly untouchable. On April 28, she threw a five-inning shutout, striking out five and walking just one to lead the Falcons to a 10-0 win over Creswell. At the plate, she went 3-for-4 with a double and scored three times, proving she's a dual threat. Meanwhile, Marist Catholic junior Lillian Wobbe matched that intensity with a six-inning shutout of her own, striking out 11 and allowing just three runners to reach base.

From track records to softball gems, this week's athletes showed that hard work and determination pay off—whether you're chasing a personal best or dominating on the field. For fans and athletes alike, it's a reminder that every competition is a chance to shine.
