Will Carson Beck see time on the field as a rookie?
The odds appear higher compared to most first-year quarterbacks.
The former Miami Hurricanes signal caller was selected during the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals with the 65th overall pick on Friday. Beck fills a major need for a franchise that finished last in the NFC West with a 3-14 record and recently moved off its franchise player.
Former No. 1 overall pick Kyler Murray was released by the Cardinals on March 11. He signed a one-year contract one day later with the Minnesota Vikings.

With Murray out of the picture, Beck joins a quarterback room with career backups Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew.
During his age 33 campaign, Brissett was effective at the helm. The West Palm Beach native appeared in 14 games last season, completing 65 percent of his passes for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Despite strong numbers, Brissett had a 1-11 record as a starter.
Spending his high school days at Dwyer before playing collegiately at Florida and North Carolina State, Brissett has played for five other teams during a 10-year career: Indianapolis, New England, Cleveland, Washington and Miami.
Minshew briefly filled in last season in Kansas City after Patrick Mahomes suffered season-ending injuries last December. However, during his lone start, the 29-year old saw his campaign come to an end following a tibial plateau fracture in Week 16.
Prior to his time in Kansas City, Minshew played for Philadelphia, Las Vegas and Indianapolis and Jacksonville, where he put up his best numbers through the first two seasons of his career in 2019 and 2020 (63 percent comp., 5,530 yards, 38 TD, 11 INT).
For a team in the middle of a rebuild, it may be smart not to throw Beck to the wolves right off the bat in the NFL’s toughest division. But considering the options, the former Miami Hurricane and northern Florida has a chance to surplant his competition and cement his status as the quarterback of the future.
