Bruins Fall to Buffalo in Game 6, Season Over

The Boston Bruins' season came to an abrupt end Friday night, as they fell 4-1 to the Buffalo Sabres in Game 6 at TD Garden. With the loss, the Bruins were eliminated from the playoffs, closing out a hard-fought series that saw them unable to overcome a determined Sabres squad.

David Pastrnak provided the lone bright spot for Boston, scoring his third goal of the postseason early in the second period. The Bruins entered the game with the same lineup as Game 5, once again missing forward Viktor Arvidsson due to an upper-body injury.

The night began with a special moment, as legendary goaltender Tim Thomas served as the Fan Banner Captain, energizing the crowd before the puck dropped. However, the Sabres quickly seized control. Alex Tuch opened the scoring at 3:25, capitalizing on a feed from Rasmus Dahlin while standing alone in front of Jeremy Swayman's crease.

The Bruins thought they had a break when Zach Benson's apparent goal was waved off for playing the puck above the crossbar, but the momentum was short-lived. Mattias Samuelsson doubled the Sabres' lead at 12:26, firing a shot from the point through screens set by Tuch and Tage Thompson. Buffalo carried a 2-0 lead and a 12-6 shots advantage into the first intermission.

Boston came out firing in the second period. Just 1:54 in, Pastrnak buried a one-timer off a feed from Pavel Zacha, cutting the deficit to 2-1 and giving the home crowd reason to hope. The period was a chaotic affair, filled with scrums, disputed calls, and an eight-minute stretch of continuous play, but no further goals were scored. The Sabres held their slim lead heading into the third, leading 19-14 in shots.

The Bruins dominated the opening of the third period, putting seven of the first eight shots on net. But on Buffalo's ninth shot of the frame, the Sabres delivered the dagger. Josh Doan outworked both Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy to a loose puck, setting up Zach Benson for a goal that extended the lead to 3-1. Josh Norris later added an empty-net goal to seal the win.

The game ended on a sour note. With just 91 seconds remaining, Benson knocked McAvoy down behind the Bruins' net. McAvoy responded by swinging his stick at Benson like a lumberjack, earning a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct. It was a frustrating end to a season that promised so much but ultimately fell short in the first round.
