High school baseball: Friday’s 4A regionals Game 1 recaps

The 4A baseball playoffs kicked off with a bang Friday as regionals got underway, delivering edge-of-your-seat action and standout performances that set the tone for a thrilling postseason. From complete-game gems to explosive offensive showcases, here's how Game 1 of each best-of-three series played out.

Mountain View set the pace early, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looking back in a 3-1 win over Hurricane. Noa Ioane was the star on the mound, tossing a complete game while scattering just three hits and striking out five. Caden Imes provided the offensive spark, going 2-for-4 at the plate. The Bruins added an insurance run in the fifth, while Hurricane's lone answer came in the second inning.

Juan Diego leaned on a strong pitching performance from Nash Crowther, who fanned seven batters, to edge Deseret Peak 2-1 in a tight contest. The game was knotted at 1-1 after the second inning, but Aiden Lucero's RBI proved to be the difference-maker. Despite committing four errors, the Soaring Hawks matched Deseret Peak's three hits and held on for the crucial road win.

Pine View delivered the drama of the day, walking off East 6-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning. Parker Heath was the hero, lacing a bases-loaded hit that sent the home crowd into a frenzy. The Panthers trailed 5-4 entering the sixth but rallied to tie the game before Heath's clutch knock sealed the victory. With the win, Pine View takes a 1-0 lead in the series and controls its own destiny.

Stansbury showed resilience in a 6-5 win over Uintah, scoring two critical runs in the top of the seventh to break a 4-4 tie. Mack Simmons led the Stallions' offense, going 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Uintah fought back with a run in the bottom of the seventh, but the rally fell short despite a 2-for-4 day from Cooper Goodrich. The Stallions now have the edge in their best-of-three series.

Green Canyon exploded for 13 runs in a dominant 13-3 win over Sky View, powered by a breakout performance from Beckham Ericson. The slugger went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, while Carter Pitcher added a 2-for-3 day with three RBIs of his own. The Wolves broke the game open with a four-run third inning and put it away with a seven-run fifth, showcasing their depth and offensive firepower.

Cedar City made the loudest statement of the day, routing Park City 15-3 behind a historic effort from Payton Ludlow. The junior catcher went 3-for-4 with three home runs and a staggering 10 RBIs, single-handedly carrying the offense. The Reds jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and kept the pressure on, adding five runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach. Park City managed two runs in the first but couldn't keep pace with Cedar City's relentless attack.

With Game 1s in the books, the pressure is on for teams to bounce back or close out series in Saturday's action. For fans and players alike, the 4A regionals are proving to be a showcase of talent, grit, and unforgettable moments.
