The Green Bay Packers made a surprising roster move on Friday, parting ways with veteran kicker Brandon McManus in a transaction designated as a post-June 1 release to free up salary cap space. For McManus, a Super Bowl 50 champion with the Denver Broncos, this marks another chapter in a career that has seen him suit up for four different teams since leaving the Mile High City.

McManus, now 34, was a key piece of the Broncos' historic 2015 playoff run, going a perfect 10-for-10 on field goal attempts during the postseason to help secure the franchise's third Lombardi Trophy. His 223 field goals in Denver rank second all-time in team history, trailing only two-time Super Bowl champion Jason Elam (395). After his tenure with the Broncos from 2014 to 2022, McManus spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Washington Commanders before joining the Packers last season.

Green Bay's decision to release McManus comes just weeks after they selected kicker Trey Smack in the sixth round of the NFL draft. Smack now appears poised to take over as the Packers' new kicker heading into the 2026 season, signaling a youth movement at the position.

Following the news, McManus took to social media to release a heartfelt statement, thanking the Packers organization and fans while expressing gratitude for his time in the league. "I'm grateful for every opportunity I've had to play this game at the highest level," he wrote. "The journey continues."

In other ex-Bronco news, the UFL's Orlando Storm released cornerback Micah Abraham on Thursday. Abraham, 25, spent part of last summer in Denver after playing for the St. Louis Battlehawks in the 2025 spring season. The cornerback has bounced between three NFL teams during his career, looking to find a permanent home.
