A.J. Ewing hit his first big league home run to spark a comeback for the New York Mets, who completed a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers with a 9-4 win on Thursday. Ewing, who was promoted prior to the series opener Tuesday, hit a 405-foot shot off Keider Montero (2-3) leading off the third. Brett Baty hit a two-run homer in the fourth and Juan Soto laced a tie-breaking RBI single off Tyler Holton in the fifth, one pitch before Mark Vientos’ two-run shot.

A.J. Ewing announced his arrival in the big leagues with a bang, launching his first career home run to spark a New York Mets comeback as they swept the Detroit Tigers 9-4 on Thursday. The rookie, called up just two days earlier, crushed a 405-foot solo shot off Keider Montero to lead off the third inning, igniting a rally that turned a 3-0 deficit into a commanding series sweep.

The Mets' offensive explosion didn't stop there. Brett Baty followed with a two-run homer in the fourth, and the fifth inning became a turning point when Juan Soto delivered a tie-breaking RBI single off Tyler Holton. Just one pitch later, Mark Vientos crushed a two-run shot to put the Mets firmly in control. Hayden Senger added a safety squeeze in the sixth, while Soto and Marcus Semien both went deep in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.

On the mound, Nolan McLean shook off a rough start—surrendering a three-run homer to Gage Workman in the first—to pitch seven strong innings, snapping a six-start winless streak. The right-hander allowed six hits, walked three, and struck out seven to earn his second win of the season.

The game wasn't without drama. Tigers manager A.J. Hinch was ejected in the fourth after a replay review confirmed Workman was thrown out at third base—one of four reviews that didn't go Detroit's way. The Mets successfully challenged a safe call on a pickoff and a caught stealing, with Baty's home run also surviving a crew chief review.

For the Tigers, Montero took the loss after allowing four runs over 4 2/3 innings. Detroit now heads home to face the Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, while the Mets prepare for a highly anticipated Subway Series showdown against the New York Yankees.
