Philipe Lins is ready to make a statement. On Saturday night, the Brazilian heavyweight steps into the cage against former UFC champion Francis Ngannou at MVP MMA 1, live on Netflix from the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California—and he's promising to turn the MMA world upside down.

Lins, who won the 2018 PFL heavyweight season and left the UFC on a four-fight winning streak in 2024, knows he's the underdog in this matchup. He's the least talked-about fighter among the top six on the card, and he's clearly the B-side to Ngannou's star power. But instead of shrinking from that role, Lins is using it as fuel.

"We're already making history before this fight even happens, with this first event on Netflix," Lins told MMA Fighting. "A win over Francis Ngannou—with everything he's done in MMA and the legacy he's built—would permanently put my name in history as the guy who beat him. It would be like a work of art. Something that takes my career to a very high level."

Despite the magnitude of the moment, Lins insists he's staying grounded. "I'm a very simple guy. I don't let myself get carried away thinking about what could happen. Even if this victory happens, I'll still be the same person. Calm, grounded, enjoying life. But without a doubt, beating Francis Ngannou would be something extraordinary. I still can't put it into words."

The fight is scheduled for five rounds, and while Lins has a reputation as a finisher—nine knockouts and four submissions in his MMA career—he's prepared to go the distance. In fact, he believes dragging Ngannou into deep waters might be his best path to victory.

"I'll be prepared to fight all five rounds. I think the longer the fight goes, the better it is for me," Lins said. "I look at his fight against Stipe Miocic as an example. I'm going to frustrate him, look for openings. It's very difficult to find holes in his game. I'll be ready to go five rounds with him, fight smart, use all my skills, and apply them the right way."

But don't mistake patience for passivity. Lins, a product of American Top Team, is also a hunter in the cage. Whether he finishes early or outlasts Ngannou over 25 minutes, one thing is clear: he's not just showing up to participate. He's coming to shock the world.
