The Hawaii baseball team delivered a thrilling comeback victory today, defeating UC Riverside 10-5 at Les Murakami Stadium to complete a three-game sweep. A lively crowd of 2,253 fans watched the Rainbow Warriors roar back from a late deficit, propelling them into a tie for fourth place in the Big West standings. UH now shares a 13-11 conference record with Cal State Fullerton, but the 'Bows hold the crucial tiebreaker advantage. With the top five teams earning a spot in the Big West Tournament, every win counts—and this one was a statement of resilience.

The game took a bizarre turn in the middle innings, as the Highlanders seized a 5-4 lead on two unusual plays. With the bases loaded and one out, Lucas Bonham hit what looked like a routine double-play grounder toward second baseman Noah Rodriguez. But the ball struck second-base umpire Matt McMahon, who couldn't quite leap out of the way. By rule, it was ruled an RBI single, knotting the score at 4 and reloading the bases. Moments later, Andrew Rivas lifted a fly ball that center fielder Kamana Nahaku dropped. Nahaku recovered to throw to shortstop Taylor Takata for a force out at second, but pinch runner Hunter Backstrom scored the go-ahead run on the play.

"It's part of the game," Rodriguez said, shrugging off the umpire's unfortunate involvement. "I know everybody's blaming him, and he feels bad. I think if that would have beaten us, that's not a good sign. We're better than that. Sure enough, the game took care of itself."

And take care of itself it did, thanks to a dramatic seventh-inning rally. With the 'Bows trailing by one, Ben Zeigler-Namoa stepped to the plate and launched a towering two-run homer that sent the crowd into a frenzy, flipping the score to 6-5 in Hawaii's favor. The blast ignited a four-run inning that put the game out of reach.

"Team was down one, and I tried to put the bat on ball, and execute for my guys," Zeigler-Namoa said. "I got it in the air, and it was pretty cool."

Taylor Takata also made his presence felt, moving up to the sixth spot in the order and delivering a 3-for-4 performance with an RBI. He finished the series an impressive 6-for-10, providing a steady spark at the plate. The sweep keeps Hawaii's postseason hopes alive and builds momentum as they eye a strong finish to the regular season.
