ARLINGTON, Texas — The Yankees toyed with their active roster again Tuesday by calling up utility infielder Max Schuemann from Triple-A.

Schuemann is replacing designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right calf strain.

After one game, Schuemann probably will be optioned back to Scranton/Wilkes-Barre because right-hander Elmer Rodriguez, the organization’s No. 3 prospect in MLB Pipeline’s rankings, is coming up to make his major-league debut in Wednesday afternoon’s series finale against the Rangers.

The Yankees have an opening in their rotation because fifth starter Luis Gil was optioned after a poor start Sunday in Houston left the 2024 AL Rookie of the Year with a 6.05 ERA in four outings.

Yankees moneyline is -115 on DraftKings for Wednesday’s series finale versus the Rangers. Our comprehensive DraftKings Sportsbook review provides an in-depth guide on how to navigate their site.

Due to Thursday’s off day, the Yankees could have waited until next Tuesday to add a starter, but it works out better this way because Rodriguez hasn’t pitched since April 22. On Thursday, he’ll have two extra days of rest.

Rodriguez, 22, is off to a great start in Triple-A with a 1.27 ERA in four starts.

A native of Puerto Rico, the 6-foot-4, 177 pounder was drafted by the Red Sox in the fourth round in 2021 and traded to the Yankees on Dec. 11, 2024, for catcher Carlos Narvaez.

Schuemann, 28, began his career hitting .212 with 9 homers and 21 steals over 134 games from 2024-25 with the Athletics. He was dealt to the Yankees on Feb. 9 for pitching prospect Luis Burgos.

This season, the right-handed hitter batted just .203 with 1 homer, 7 RBIs and 6 steals in 23 games with Scranton.
