The New York Yankees have suffered another blow to their pitching depth, as right-hander Luis Gil was placed on the injured list Saturday due to shoulder inflammation. The team announced that Gil is not expected to throw for at least three weeks, raising concerns about his availability for the coming months.

Gil, who was the American League Rookie of the Year in 2024, has struggled to replicate that breakout success. He was recently optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after a tough start to the season in the majors, where he posted a 6.05 ERA over four starts. His demotion came in late April, and he had not appeared in a game for the RailRiders since.

Earlier this season, Gil made one start for the Triple-A squad after failing to make the Opening Day roster, allowing three runs on four walks and six strikeouts over 4.2 innings. The 27-year-old has battled injuries throughout his career, including a right lat strain that landed him on the 60-day injured list to begin last season. He returned in August but has not been able to find his form since.

For Yankees fans, this latest setback is a reminder of the ups and downs that come with developing young arms. Gil's electric stuff made him a fan favorite during his rookie campaign, but consistency and health remain his biggest hurdles. As the team navigates the long season, they'll be hoping for a speedy recovery from the promising right-hander.
