Get ready, Mountaineer Nation—Milan Puskar Stadium is about to reach new heights. Following the 2026 football season, WVU Athletics is embarking on an exciting transformation with the construction of a brand-new West Tower, promising to elevate the game-day experience for generations of fans.
This isn't just an upgrade; it's a complete reimagining of one of college football's most storied venues. The current press box tower will come down to make way for a larger, multi-purpose structure that blends broadcast functionality with premium fan spaces. As project executive Scott Mull explains, "It'll be built back larger, so it can be a combined space. The press and broadcast functions will still be in there, but it'll also have a lot of fan space as well."
WVU Athletics describes the project as a direct response to what Mountaineer Nation has been asking for: modern, premium experiences that bring comfort, connection, and excitement to every game. The new West Tower will feature four distinct levels, each designed to offer something special. Starting from the ground up, fans will find the Club Level, followed by the Founders Level and the Suite Level, with the new state-of-the-art press box crowning the top. Plans also include new ledge seats that will bring fans closer to the action.
The project is in the hands of a powerhouse team. National construction firm Barton Malow—known for stadium projects across the country—is partnering with Morgantown-based March-Westin, which brings deep local ties to WVU. "They're taking the right step with this construction and overall design," says Patrick Garcia, project manager with March-Westin. "Everything has been well thought out and has a purpose, which is what's great about this new build." Legends Global, representing WVU Athletics, and the SLAM Collaborative, serving as project architects, round out the all-star lineup.
For fans wondering about the timeline, here's the game plan: construction kicks off immediately after the 2026 season and will continue through the 2027 season. During that time, temporary provisions will be in place for broadcast and press operations, ensuring the stadium remains safe and functional for fans to enjoy the 2027 season. The grand finale? A full grand opening of the new West Tower for the 2028 season.
This investment signals a bold new chapter for Mountaineer football, blending tradition with innovation to create a venue that matches the passion of its fans. Whether you're eyeing those new club seats or just eager to see the skyline change, one thing is clear: game days at Milan Puskar Stadium are about to get even more unforgettable.
