Apr. 27—The second transfer to join the Wright State men's basketball roster for the 2026-27 season started 55 games over the last two seasons at Cedarville University, a Division II program.

Wright State announced the addition of Sam Johnson, a 6-foot-7 guard, on Monday, April 27.

Johnson, a graduate of Worthington Christian High School, has two seasons of eligibility remaining. He ranked second at Cedarville in scoring as a sophomore, averaging 14.9 points per game, after averaging 12.7 as a freshman.

Johnson made the Great Midwest Athletic Conference first team in 2026.

"Sam is joining us with a strong foundation and an impressive skill set on and off the floor," Wright State coach Clint Sargent said in a press release. "We love his hunger to improve and his excitement to contribute to our program. He brings valuable depth to our frontcourt and plays with a high level of physicality when he has the ball in his hands. His size and mobility are exactly what we look for in our frontcourt players."

Johnson led Cedarville in rebounding in both of his seasons, averaging 6.0 as a freshman and 5.9 as a sophomore.

At Worthington Christian, Johnson averaged 21.4 points, 11.2 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks as a senior. He ranks third on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,595 points.

Johnson joins Chadlyn Traylor, a 6-foot-3 guard who played his freshman season at the College of Charleston, in Wright State's 2026 transfer class.

Wright State also has two freshmen among its newcomers: Tahj Martin, a 6-foot-2 guard from Silver Spring, Md.; and Noah Lewis, a 6-7 forward from Charleston, W.Va.

Johnson is the second Cedarville player from the 2025-26 roster to transfer to a Division I program. Anthony Ruffolo, an Alter High School graduate, committed to Charleston Southern earlier this month.
