Wrexham boss Phil Parkinson has opened up on how his players have stepped up in the Championship, how they will handle a potentially manic final gameday, and Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac's approach to coaching staff

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has described this weekend's fixture as "a historic game for the club" as the Red Dragons push for an unprecedented fourth consecutive promotion. The Welsh side, co-owned by Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, currently sits in the final playoff spot heading into the last day of the Championship season.

Parkinson, who took charge in 2021, has guided Wrexham through three straight promotions, bringing them back to the second tier of English soccer for the first time since 1982. Now, they could make it four in a row, but the path is far from straightforward.

Wrexham enters Saturday's finale tied on 70 points with Hull City in seventh place, and just one point ahead of Derby County in eighth. Their task? Hosting fourth-placed Middlesbrough, who still harbor hopes of automatic promotion depending on results elsewhere. With Ipswich Town and Millwall also in the mix, the final standings could shift dramatically.

Parkinson has a plan for the chaos. "I'll designate someone in particular on the bench who will be keeping a check on the results," he explained. "I've done that before on the last day or the last couple of week dramas when the results are important. As much as the crowd can give an indication, I'll always have someone alongside me monitoring the situation."

The manager has heaped praise on his squad for stepping up in their first Championship campaign. Key contributors include top scorer Josh Windass, Welsh international Kieffer Moore, Manchester City loanee Issa Kaboré, and academy product Max Cleworth, who has been with the club since their National League days.

With so much at stake and results across the country out of their control, Wrexham's Hollywood story could write another dramatic chapter this weekend. For fans and neutrals alike, it's the kind of tension that makes the Championship the most unpredictable league in football.
