The World Cup final is set to make history with a star-studded half-time show that could break the traditional 15-minute break. Global icons Madonna, Shakira, and South Korean sensation BTS will headline the inaugural performance, curated by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin. Martin announced the line-up in a playful social media video featuring Sesame Street and Muppets characters, sending fans into a frenzy.

Scheduled for Sunday, July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, this unprecedented spectacle is expected to push the half-time interval beyond its usual length. FIFA president Gianni Infantino revealed the plans last March, sharing details on Instagram to build excitement.

The show supports the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a campaign aiming to raise $100 million to expand access to education and football for children worldwide. This aligns with a growing trend of mega-star half-time entertainment, popularized by events like the Super Bowl. Madonna headlined the Super Bowl in 2012, while Shakira shared the stage with Jennifer Lopez in 2020. FIFA tested the waters last summer with a half-time show at MetLife Stadium during the Club World Cup final, where Chelsea defeated Paris St-Germain 3-0.

In related news, the Trump administration confirmed this week that fans from certain countries won't need to pay expensive bonds to attend the World Cup, according to the Associated Press. The bond requirement, introduced last year for visitors from 50 nations, had imposed deposits up to $15,000 to prevent visa overstays. The U.S. State Department and Homeland Security did not comment on the exemption.

The expanded World Cup, featuring 48 teams, kicks off June 11 across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. With such a massive stage, this half-time show promises to be a game-changer in sports entertainment.
