It’s not everyday that the WNBA, NBA and the popculture world clash. But once in a blue moon, they do. Megan Thee Stallion announced that she was breaking up with Dallas Mavericks star Klay Thompson. “Trust, fidelity and respect are non-negotiable for me in a relationship, and when those values are compromised, there’s no real path forward,” the statement read. Now, Lexie Brown was the rumored WNBA player Thompson was cheating on Stallion with. But the WNBA star has come out with a statement to clear the air.

The talks stemmed from the Instagram activity from both. Thompson had unfollowed Lexie Brown, who, in turn, made her Instagram account private. This was read as deliberate distancing after the rumors caught some steam. Some fans also claim that Brown shared details of her conversations with Thompson with her close friends on Instagram. However, Brown has come out and shut all the noise from her side.

“I’ve seen what’s been said online, and I want to be clear, none of it is true and I have no involvement in this situation,” Brown wrote on her instagram stories. “This new week marks the start of an important and exciting new season for me, and my focus is fully on that.”

The rumors were already far-fetched and based on little evidence. Neither Stallion nor Thompson had acknowledged it. In addition, Lexie Brown and Klay Thompson have little connection other than their shared basketball circles. Brown’s father Dee played in the NBA from 1990 to 2002 and even coached the Pistons and the Kings in the early 2010s. This rumor particularly drew a lot of hate towards Brown as Megan Thee Stallion fans rained down on her.

This could not come at a worse time for Brown. She has suffered through Crohn’s disease over the last couple of years and only found herself fully fit for this season. She struggled during the 2024 season with the same and was traded “out of the blue” from the Sparks to the Storm. “My work ethic and my talent were constantly being questioned because I got sick,” Brown said. “That hasn’t been an easy thing for me to deal with.”

She averaged just 9.5 minutes per game last season and is looking to make more impact in this one. Even this season, the journey is not easy as Lexie Brown needs to prove herself in the offseason to earn a place in this Seattle roster.

Lexie Brown signed a 2-year, $195,226 contract with the Los Angeles Sparks, including an average annual salary of $97,613. After which she was traded to the Storm. In 2026, Brown will earn a base salary of $277,500, while carrying a cap hit of $277,500 and a dead cap value of $98,818. A dead cap value means only that amount is guaranteed for Brown. Since that is lower than her contract, the Storm can afford to waive her in theory. Considering their roster construction, she is facing an uphill task in finding her place.

The Storm has a talented guard rotation, particularly point guard. They have signed Natisha Hiedeman from the Lynx, who will likely start. Behind them, they have Jade Melbourne, Zia Cooke, and Lexie Brown, who will compete for their spot on the roster. Fortunately, there are 12 spots available this time onwards with the new CBA kicking in.

Brown does have a few advantages. The team could value her experience in the league after spending 8 years in it. Melbourne and Cooke have played for three each. So, an experienced backup to Hiedeman could be a way to go. However, Melbourne is coming off a better season than that of Brown.

She averaged 5.9 points and 2.9 assists for the Mystics, even starting 12 games for them. In the first preseason clash, Brown started to contribute 9 points and 3 rebounds while shooting 2-3 from the 3-point line. The Storm could also move her to shooting guard in order to retain her outside shooting. So, while the rumors may have briefly pulled her into an unwanted spotlight, the real challenge lies ahead in Seattle, where every minute will have to be earned
