Kelly Sheffield has a lot to like as he looks at Wisconsin's 2026 roster, but the Badgers could add some more depth in the spring portal window.

Wisconsin volleyball head coach Kelly Sheffield is feeling confident as he surveys the Badgers' roster heading into the 2026 season. With the spring transfer portal opening on May 1 for a 15-day window, Sheffield doesn't see an urgent need to make major moves.

"I love the roster that we have right now," Sheffield said. "I love the ability to grow with this group. This group is going to be feisty and get after it on Day 1."

That's a luxury for any program in the ever-changing landscape of college volleyball. While the Badgers will look to fill two remaining roster spots to reach the 18-player cap—a number that carries Title IX considerations—Sheffield isn't feeling pressured to bring in talent just for the sake of it.

"If we didn't have a roster target number that I was given, I'm not sure that we'd be bringing anybody in, but we do, and I've got to respond to that," Sheffield explained.

Wisconsin's most pressing need after the winter transfer window appeared to be at libero. The departures of Aniya Warren (to Oklahoma) and Maile Chan (to Florida State) left Kristen Simon as the lone libero on the spring roster. The Badgers have since added Italian libero Anna Bardaro, whom Sheffield described as "a partner in crime" for Simon. But he hinted that more help could be on the way, noting after the last spring match that he'd "hopefully get her another one back there."

Beyond that, the Badgers are stacked. Outside hitters Eva Travis (UC-Santa Barbara transfer), along with incoming freshmen Audrey Flanagan and Halle Thompson, turned heads during spring practices and matches. They join returners Grace Egan, Grace Lopez, and Madison Quest—though Egan and Lopez sat out the spring due to injuries. Meanwhile, Florida transfer Jaela Auguste has already made an impact in the middle.

For a program that consistently competes at the highest level, having depth and flexibility is a winning formula. As the portal opens, Wisconsin is in the enviable position of being able to be selective—adding only the right pieces to an already formidable puzzle.
