The enthusiasm for the game is evident in Austin as Dallas and Las Vegas meet on a college campus for the second straight year.

The Dallas Wings are bringing the WNBA to Austin for the first time, and the excitement is palpable. Sunday night's preseason matchup against the Las Vegas Aces at the University of Texas's Moody Center marks a historic moment for women's basketball in the city. Fans began lining up outside the arena—home to the Longhorns' men's and women's teams—as early as two hours before the 6 p.m. tip, eager to grab Wings merchandise and soak in the atmosphere.

This isn't the first time these two powerhouse teams have met on a college campus. Last preseason, the Wings and Aces squared off at Notre Dame's Purcell Pavilion, continuing a trend of bringing professional women's basketball to passionate collegiate venues. For the Wings, playing in Austin offers a chance to connect with a new fan base and showcase the sport's growing momentum.

"It's really fun to just spread the WNBA and spread women's basketball and spread women's sports in general," said star Wings guard Paige Bueckers before the game. "There's no better time than now, so it's really fun to get out here in Austin." Bueckers knows the Moody Center well—she played there in December 2023 while still at UConn, where her Huskies fell to the Longhorns 80-68. Despite the loss, she left impressed. "I do remember the great environment," she added. "The arena's amazing."

As the WNBA continues to expand its reach, games like this one highlight the sport's ability to draw crowds beyond traditional markets. For fans in Austin, it's a rare chance to see elite talent up close—and for the Wings, it's another step toward building a national following.
