Dallas Wings coach Jose Fernandez called out selfishness in his locker room after a second straight loss, demanding accountability before frustration grows.

The Dallas Wings are only three games into the season, but the warning signs are already flashing. After a second straight loss on Thursday—a 90-86 defeat to the Minnesota Lynx at College Park Center—first-year head coach Jose Fernandez didn't hold back. His postgame message was clear, direct, and aimed at the heart of a locker room still finding its identity.

"There's selfishness in this locker room. You gotta look in the mirror and be accountable on how you play," Fernandez said, confirming the tough conversation he had with his players after the final buzzer.

That kind of honesty carries extra weight when you consider what Dallas assembled during the offseason. The Wings drafted Azzi Fudd with the first overall pick to pair alongside reigning Rookie of the Year Paige Bueckers. Add franchise cornerstone Arike Ogunbowale to the mix, and you have a roster that is expected to compete—not just participate.

Coming off a 10-34 season, the pressure is real. The Wings are expected to show immediate improvement, and Fernandez is making sure frustration doesn't fester before it can be addressed.

The on-court evidence supporting his frustration was unmistakable. In the fourth quarter alone, Dallas allowed five uncontested baskets at the rim on basic pick-and-roll coverage. Minnesota outscored the Wings 11-3 over the final 3:26 of the game. "They got everything they wanted," Fernandez said bluntly about the defensive breakdowns.

Chemistry is still a work in progress under a first-year head coach installing a new system on both ends of the floor. The adjustment period is real, and execution hasn't matched the talent on this roster yet. But with stars like Bueckers and Fudd in the lineup, the expectations won't wait. The question now is whether this wake-up call will spark accountability—or deepen the divide.
