Ulster Rugby is set for a significant squad overhaul as 11 senior players prepare to depart the province at the end of the season. Among the notable names heading for the exit are fan-favorite wing Werner Kok and long-serving hooker John Andrew, marking the end of an era for the Belfast-based club.
Kok, the explosive South African winger, has been a standout performer since joining Ulster from the Sharks in 2024. With 12 tries across all competitions this season, his electric pace and relentless energy have made him a crowd favorite at Kingspan Stadium. His departure will leave a noticeable gap in Ulster's backline, where his try-scoring prowess has been a key weapon.
Joining Kok on the way out is John Andrew, a hooker who has been a model of consistency since his senior debut in 2015. With over 130 appearances, Andrew has been a reliable deputy for Irish internationals like Rory Best, Rob Herring, and Tom Stewart. His experience and work ethic will be sorely missed in the forward pack.
The exodus doesn't stop there. Australia prop Angus Bell will return to the NSW Waratahs after his short-term stint in Belfast, while forwards Matthew Dalton, Marcus Rea, Rory McGuire, Bryan O'Connor, and Sean Reffell will all move on following the expiration of their contracts. Experienced scrum-half Dave Shanahan, who has amassed over 100 appearances since his debut in 2013, will also bid farewell, alongside backs Ben Moxham and James Humphreys.
Adding to the turnover, academy prospects Sam Berman, Wilhelm De Klerk, Ethan Graham, Lukas Kenny, and Josh Stevens will also depart, signaling a youth reset for the province.
Despite the looming changes, Ulster's immediate focus remains on the pitch. They face a crucial United Rugby Championship clash against Glasgow Warriors on Friday, where a win could secure a play-off spot. Then, attention turns to the Challenge Cup final against Montpellier in Bilbao on May 22—a chance to end the season on a high note.
