The Miami Dolphins have been making moves this offseason, reshaping their roster in ways that have fans and analysts alike taking notice. But one name that has remained surprisingly stationary is De'Von Achane.
Despite swirling rumors and plenty of speculation, the dynamic running back hasn't been traded — and according to insiders, it may not be happening anytime soon. While the Dolphins have been active in the trade market, moving players like wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, Achane appears to be part of a different conversation entirely.
So what's behind Miami's decision to hold onto their explosive playmaker? According to ESPN's Dan Graziano, the Dolphins' front office sees Achane as a foundational piece — not a trade chip.
"Talking to Dolphins people throughout this offseason, what I've been told is that the team views Achane, center Aaron Brewer, and linebacker Jordyn Brooks as foundational players and candidates for extensions rather than trades," Graziano reported. "Miami is focused on the future, but new coach Jeff Hafley and new GM Jon-Eric Sullivan aren't interested in just white-flagging their first season by stripping things all the way down to the studs. They need some players to build around, and they have identified Achane as one worth keeping long term."
In a league where running backs are often viewed as replaceable commodities, this kind of commitment is notable. Achane's explosive speed and big-play ability have clearly won over the Dolphins' new leadership, who see him as a cornerstone for their evolving offense.
That said, the NFL is a business, and every player has a price. Graziano noted that if a team were to come calling with a first-round pick — similar to the offer that landed Jaylen Waddle in Denver — Miami's stance might soften. "All I'll say on that is if a team offered a first-round pick for Achane, as the Broncos did for Waddle, the Dolphins' opinion of the standout running back as part of their future might have wavered a bit," he wrote.
For now, though, the message from Miami is clear: De'Von Achane is staying put. Whether that changes before the season kicks off remains to be seen, but for Dolphins fans and fantasy football managers alike, the speedy back appears to be a key part of the team's plans moving forward.
