With little going on with him right now, Donald Trump will probably appreciate the attention that he will receive from the PGA Tour holding the Cadillac Championship at Doral this week.

The Cadillac Championship was added to the schedule as a signature event ahead of the 2026 season. It sees the PGA Tour return to the Blue Monster for the first time in a decade.

Previously, Doral was a stalwart of the schedule for more than half a century. In 2012, Donald Trump became the owner of the property. With that, changes were made to the layout.

And it is safe to say that not everyone was a fan of the changes.

Scott Vail has spent the last few years caddying for Keegan Bradley. But he previously spent around 12 years on the bag of Brandt Snedeker.

And as Snedeker signed for his score after one WGC event on the Blue Monster, Vail landed himself in trouble after referring to the course as ‘Dump International’ on social media.

As he told Subpar in 2024, his comments led to a number of apologies, as well as a suggestion from Donald Trump himself to Snedeker that he should go and find another caddie.

“It made headlines, CBS Sports, the main page of their sport sections. I was like, ‘oh man, now I’m in trouble’. But I still believe it, so anyway I say that. Monday, Tuesday rolls around, they want to take some action with me, and Donald Trump’s associates, this is before he was President, probably two or three years before he was President, they got involved and I had to write an apology email to Donald Trump,” he said.

“Now we’re at Tampa the next week and I’m at the golf course and I’m just trying to avoid everybody, because guys are giving me a hard time, and I’m thinking I’m going to lose my job. Sneds was close to firing me I think. It just wasn’t a good look. So I had to apologise to him, Brandt had to apologise to him as well.

“It’s like Wednesday and I still haven’t apologised, because I have Johnny and Foochy in my ear saying, ‘don’t do it, he’s going to bully you, don’t let him bully you’. And I’m like, ‘you’re right, I’m not apologising’. Well, Brandt’s already sent the apology, he reads me the email back and it was from Donald Trump, and it was, ‘thanks very much for the email apology, Brandt, the boys love the golf course, it’s a great golf course’. It was like four or five lines this reply back to Sneds and the last couple of lines was, ‘oh by the way, your caddie’s a moron and you should fire him’.”

Snedeker did, unfortunately, not have the best record while the WGC event was held at Doral.

He finished outside the top 40 in his first three appearances. In 2015, he registered his best result as he finished tied for 17th.

But there was further disappointment to come, with Snedeker having to withdraw in the second round of the 2016 event due to a rib injury.

It would prove to be the final WGC tournament on the Blue Monster. So it will be interesting to see whether the players end up having a much more positive view of the venue this time around.
