A handful of first-time meetings and a renewed county rivalry headline the SIAC football non-conference games this fall.

The 2026 high school football season is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated in recent memory for the Southern Indiana Athletic Conference (SIAC), and we're not even past spring practice yet. While official practices don't kick off until August 3, teams will be hitting the field right after Memorial Day, and the buzz is already electric. With Vincennes Lincoln set to depart the SIAC after the 2025-26 school year, the conference's remaining nine schools have a golden opportunity to shake things up with some fresh non-conference matchups.

Get ready for a season of first-time meetings and a renewed county rivalry that's sure to have fans on the edge of their seats. Boonville is the name on everyone's lips, having locked in games with three SIAC teams—a reunion of programs that clashed annually from 1941 to 1966, with four postseason meetings since 2015. The most memorable? A thrilling 42-35 comeback by the Pioneers in 2018. This fall, Boonville will face Bosse, a team hungry for a turnaround under new head coach Johnte Hawkins, who took the reins in December. The Bulldogs are on a 21-game losing streak dating back to October 2023, while Boonville went 4-6 last season behind quarterback Jaxon McKain's 1,041 passing yards and 12 touchdowns. Their clash will debut in the United Fidelity Bank Bowl at Gibson Southern—a matchup that promises high stakes and even higher drama.

Reitz, fresh off a 7-4 season and a loss in the Class 4A sectional semifinal, is gearing up to face Tri-West. Watch for Juice Wilford, who led all Indiana freshmen with 1,474 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns last year. He'll be up against Wisconsin commit Jack Sorgi, who threw for 2,911 yards and 31 touchdowns for Tri-West. Meanwhile, Gibson Southern will take on St. Pius (Mo.) in the second game of the United Fidelity Bank Bowl on August 29—a test that could set the tone for the season.

One spot remains a mystery: the Wildcats of Mater Dei are still searching for an opponent, though a game is reportedly in the works. Coming off a 6-6 season under first-year coach Cody Hess and a loss in the Class 3A sectional championship, Mater Dei is eager to prove itself. It's surprising these two programs don't meet more often in the tournament—only two matchups since 2008, with Central winning both. Could this be the year the tide turns? Stay tuned, because the 2026 SIAC season is already shaping up to be a gridiron classic.
