Florida's top high school athletes are set to converge on Jacksonville from May 6–9 for the FHSAA Track & Field State Championships, and this year's event features a standout group of football recruits who are also making waves on the track.

More than a dozen players from the USA TODAY Florida Network top 100 have qualified for the state meet, showcasing the versatility and athleticism that makes them elite prospects. Among the headliners are John Carroll Catholic offensive lineman Sean Tatum (ranked No. 14), Lennard safety Mekhi Williams (No. 31), and Indian Rocks Christian edge rusher Anthony Cavallaro (No. 44).

Cavallaro, a Florida State commit, enters the championships with serious momentum. He won gold in the discus in 2025 and is currently the No. 1 seed in Class 1A in that event, while also holding the No. 2 seed in the shot put. His ability to dominate in the throwing events translates directly to the power and explosiveness needed on the football field.

Other top recruits to watch include West Nassau's Avery Griffin in the boys long jump, Bolles' Evie Freeman in the girls long jump, and Fernandina Beach's Beck Rohe in the boys long jump. Bishop Kenny's Caleb Mattison and Raines' Hamire Walker are also competing in the long jump, while Fernandina Beach's Ethan Watts and Bishop Kenny's Jackson O'Brien are set to battle in the boys discus.

For football fans, this is a prime opportunity to see future college stars showcase their raw athleticism in a different arena. Whether it's speed on the track or power in the field events, these recruits are proving that elite football talent often shines brightest under the Friday night lights—and on the track.
