As the 2026 WNBA season gets underway, UConn women's basketball continues to dominate the professional ranks. A remarkable 16 former Huskies have secured spots on opening day rosters, making UConn the most represented college program in the league this season. These stars are spread across nine of the WNBA's 15 teams, showcasing the enduring legacy of the program.
The Golden State Valkyries lead the pack with four UConn alumni on their roster, while the Connecticut Sun, Dallas Wings, Minnesota Lynx, and Seattle Storm each boast two former Huskies. But the UConn influence extends beyond the court—four-time NCAA champion Morgan Tuck enters her second season as general manager of the Sun, and two-time WNBA champion Jennifer Rizzotti serves as the franchise's president. Hall of Famer Sue Bird and All-Star Renee Montgomery are part owners of the Seattle Storm and Atlanta Dream, respectively, while two-time NCAA champion Kelly Faris begins her first season as an assistant coach for the Chicago Sky.
The WNBA tips off with three games on Friday, all featuring at least one former Husky. The Sun face the New York Liberty in Brooklyn at 7:30 p.m., the Toronto Tempo host the Washington Mystics at the same time, and the Valkyries close the night against the Storm at 10 p.m. in Seattle.
Here's a closer look at where every UConn alum lands as the 2026 regular season begins:
Azura Stevens ('18) – Chicago Sky
Stevens, a 6-foot-6 forward, returns to Chicago after signing as a free agent following three seasons with the Los Angeles Sparks. She previously played for the Sky from 2020-22 and now enters her ninth WNBA season. Stevens had a career year in 2025, starting all 44 games and averaging 12.8 points, eight rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 1.1 blocks.
Aaliyah Edwards ('24) – Connecticut Sun
Edwards, drafted No. 6 overall by the Washington Mystics in 2024, was traded to the Sun mid-2025. She returns to Connecticut for her third season after averaging 4.6 points and 4.2 rebounds in 15 games with the team last year. Despite missing the Sun's second preseason game with a left thigh injury, she logged 14 points and five rebounds in an April 29 win.
