Have you ever looked at a player and just known they are destined to be a Pittsburgh Steeler someday? This has always been the case with Iowa guard Gennings Dunker. So when the Steelers traded up at the end of the third round of the 2026 NFL Draft we smiled.
But where does Dunker fit on the Steelers roster and what do we see as his role? Despite his time at Iowa being at tackle, Dunker definitely projects as a guard in the NFL This is more to do with measureables than skills but for Pittsburgh they surely see him the same way after drafting offensive tackle Max Iheanachor in the first round.
As far as the depth chart, there's no reason Dunker cannot compete for and win the starting left guard job at some point in his rookie season. He's well coached, smart and powerful. The Steelers best options right now are veterans Brock Hoffman and Spencer Anderson. At the bare minimum, Dunker is the No. 2 left guard behind Anderson until he's ready to take over the starting job.
